.....the making of a rescue.
Neither one of us thought that 2025 would be the year. It wasn't like either of us had some new years resolution to start up a dog rescue and 501c3. I mean really, that sounds almost crazy.
But here we are! It is kind of interesting actually. One night, I was at the end of my rope. I was frustrated and felt I just couldn't help through the current options I had. As I arrived home, the winter night was perfectly clear and beautiful. Cold and crisp, the stars shone brightly in deep darkness of the night sky. It was the first night of the 6 planets aligning in the sky. 3 of those planets, in a perfect line shone brightly as I gazed into the infinite darkness above me. Finally, I just put it out in the universe (and then Facebook). Maybe it was time to start my own rescue.
Megan was already a part of my life. And both of us had made comment about starting a rescue. She was already doing amazing work at her farm helping whatever dogs she could that were not being helped by other rescues. But you can only do so much on your own.
Well, after putting it out there, Megan stepped up and said she was on my team if I said yes. Then, over the next few days, just as the planets aligned, so did our lives and sign after neon sign that this was meant to be our path.
So began our new rescue, Timber Tails K9 Rescue. By the end of the first week after the announcement, we had 4 dogs registered into the rescue, with 2 of those saved from euthanasia scheduled for only 2 days away if our rescue didn't step up.
Now, 4 weeks later we have:
1 dog at a foster to adopt home
4 additional dogs in the rescue
1 more dog scheduled to come into rescue in 2 days
A website being started. And it is connected to our shelter software showing our adoptable dogs, plus this blog.
A Facebook page (because in today's world, you aren't legitimate until you have Facebook. LOL)
Shelter software to track all our dogs, and complete foster and adopter applications and process adoptions.
Our Federal EIN number
The state paperwork submitted for our business.
501c3 Paperwork already in the works
Multiple other non-profits offering help to make sure we succeed. Offers to help any husky mix we get in. Offers to help cover portions of our spays/neuters.
AND, let us not forget, we already have about 10 people angry and upset that they weren't "picked" to adopt 2 dogs we knew would get a lot of apps. 10 people that don't understand we can't split dogs between 12 people.
I guess all in all, that isn't bad for the first month of existence.
So hello Grays Harbor. Here we are! Soon we will be introducing the Timber Tails team and the amazing people that are making this whole thing possible!
We look forward to providing stories through this blog. We will have various categories including a category for amazing and touching dog stories, stories about running a rescue, resources, and more.
Follow along and join in the stories as we share the tales Timber Tails K9 Rescue.
